This piece, an elaborately carved and gilded poster bed in the Baroque style, most likely dates to the first half of the 18th Century and is of Northern European origin. It had some minor structural issues, but most of the restoration was focused on repairing the damage to the gilded surface. There were some losses to the carving and areas where the gesso surface had cracked and flaked off. In particular, the turned elements capping the bed posts had suffered the most and needed extensive re-gilding. All repairs were performed using the water gilding method in 22K gold leaf and carefully patinated to match the original surface.
