This desk, constructed in cherry and dating back to the early 19th century, was commissioned in Albany, NY for the Delameter family of Columbia County whose descendants still reside in the area. The original owners initials are inlaid in the fall front in walnut and maple veneers. It was in rough shape, having been stored in a barn for many years. Chief among the many issues needing to be addressed, the feet had been cut down and the interior parsons door was missing. The client decided to have a new door fabricated using the same inlay motifs found elsewhere on the piece including shaded corner fans, maple stringing along the edges, a four pointed star in ebony and maple and the same inlaid initials found on the front. The missing drawer pulls were recast in bronze using the originals as a model.
