  • Louis XV Marquetry Commode

An 18th Century Louis XV commode covered in marquetry of vines and birds comprised of rosewood, satinwood, mahogany and various dyed veneers. This piece came into the shop looking a little tired and in need of a freshening up, meaning glue down the loose veneers, replace minor losses and apply a new coat of polish. Because much of the surface is curved and not flat, hot sand is used to soften the veneer and reactivate the old hide glue used to hold it in place. The sand conforms perfectly to the concave or convex surface.
